The purpose of this course, which is endorsed by IASGO, is to educate surgeons on the innovative treatments of benign and malignant colorectal disorders, with lectures and discussions focused on surgical tips aimed at addressing challenging decisions or surgical situations. There will be engaging lectures, videos and case presentations with the purpose of generating honest, interactive and informative discussions. Come for the whole course or split your visit based on your areas of clinical interest.

On the first two days, we will focus on benign anorectal and colonic diseases, with a significant emphasis on Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) pathways, trends in diverticulitis care, new advances in anorectal procedures and insights in endoscopic techniques. We will be joined by talented speakers and distinguished colorectal experts from many wonderful national and international institutions. On the last day, attendees can dive deeply into the nuances of modern care of patients with rectal cancer. They are encouraged to bring their multidisciplinary rectal cancer team along to review and prepare for the new American College of Surgeons (ACS) National Program for Rectal Cancer requirements. We will have case presentations, videos, lectures and debates focused on the evolving paradigms of rectal cancer care, with a focus on the use of modern MRI in rectal cancer management.

Finally, our course will feature many opportunities for social events and a poster competition. We hope that attendees will encourage their trainees to apply and join us to learn and meet many of their future peers.

CME and CME with self-assessment credits will be offered.

This year's course is scheduled to take place immediately preceding another HMS CME course, “Advances in Surgical Oncology” taking place at the Massachusetts General Hospital O’Keefe Auditorium on May 7-8 2018. This schedule allows participants to travel to Boston and enjoy the benefit of back-to-back Harvard Medical School CME courses.
